Photo 25 Sep 11 notes Having an interest in something nerdy does NOT make you part of the new “geek” pop culture.Wearing thick rimmed glasses, buying video games in your twenties , going to conventions past 18, renting movies of things you’ve never read, ect, does not earn you the “nerd” status that’s popular now and glorified. Money will not upgrade you, nor will all the research in the world bring you that special bond you find with fellow nerds. It is a connection to a hobby or fictional plane of existence that was forged in the fires of being bullied; it was created by feeling alone and exiled. It was born by the time you would basically RUN home from the bullshit that was 8th grade and dive into a pile of comics in your basement. It was running to your N64 or PS1 to play ZELDA or FINAL FANTASY and escape for the weekend (esp. long weekends. THAT WAS GODLY.) It’s knowing that a part of yourself was more open and creative to the fictional world while some friends ran off to go be cool. It’s where you develop a different, and often better, set of morals based of the altruistic actions of heroes. It’s a long and difficult journey being a “nerd/geek” that takes a life time. So when you pretend to do it for fashion, or dress up at a con and do a slutty version of a beloved character just for the attention, it makes us rage and THAT’S why we shit all over you. That’s why we HATE that people wear Batman shirts and haven’t even read HUSH. I’m done being preachy…I just wanted everyone to know that I really hate slutty cosplayers and this whole wave of “nerd stuff is cool now”.

P.S. I was born in 1985. I didn’t have an internet community to fall back on til 2001. Being a nerd was a lot harder.
